What does it feel like to hold your savings?

That’s the question that pulled me into the world of precious metals.

I’m 51 years old, with very little saved and almost no retirement funds. On paper, that sounds bleak. But the truth is—I’ve got a good job, pay my bills on time, and make decent money. What I’ve lacked is discipline. So, I decided it’s time to commit to a plan I can actually stick with.

Why gold and silver?

Because they’re tangible. Stocks, ETFs, and mutual funds are real money, sure—but to me, they’ve always just looked like numbers on a screen. Too easy to sell. Too abstract. I’ve cashed out more than once simply because they didn’t feel real.

But a silver coin? I can hold it. It has weight, shine, value beyond the face amount stamped on it. That makes sense to me.

Funny enough, I already own a little silver without realizing it. Years ago, when my boys were young, I bought proof sets from the U.S. Mint just because I thought they were neat. They’re still in my safe, tucked away. Only recently did I recognize: those coins were my accidental first step into precious metals.

My goals right now:

  • Learn how to buy and sell gold and silver.

  • Figure out the best places to buy.

  • Understand what “spot” means (and probably a dozen other things I don’t even know yet).

I know it’s going to be a roller coaster. But I enjoy research, and I’m ready to share what I learn, one ounce at a time.

So, if you’re curious—or even skeptical—stick around. I’ll show you my wins, my mistakes, and everything in between as I build my stack, coin by coin. Hopefully, I’ll come out stronger—and not broke—on the other side.

Talk soon,
Mike
